Tête-à-tête

It still is cold up here in the north. Last night we went down to -3 degrees Celsius and during the day we only have about 5 degrees.

I managed to come to the summer cottage for a long weekend. This is a good time for gardening though it is so cold that you end up spending half your time heating the cottage.

Tête-à-tête (Narcissus Tête-à-tête) is the first daffodil to bloom and the others have not yet started. It is a bit pity that during the winter we usually loose half of them because they are not the hardest ones.

Wild Daffodil

We had few warm nights and it did wonders. Daffodils are starting to bloom and it is such a delight to walk outside.

Bought this daffodil (Narcissus pseudonarcissus) from Ikea more than a month ago but finally it decided to open its flowers.

Like the color it has. Such a bright colored variety.

Violet

There are so many different color options for Violets (Viola) but I think that I now have the ones selected for this summer.

I have been going to different shops and finding out the options for this season.

Will have most of them in pots in the summer cottage, now that the isolation of the capital area is over and it seems that we are able to travel again.

Still more than a week to go before I will have a long weekend to spend over there. Simply cannot wait time to pass.

Lily

Bought one yellow for the Easter to start the season early.

Still few more months to go before the lilies (Lilium) start to bloom up here in the north.

When it has bloomed I will take it to the summer cottage and replant it. Not quite sure though that this variety can take the winter weather but will soon find out.

I bought few of them last year and planted. Few weeks from now I should see if they made it through the winter.

Corn Marigold

After a cool start of July we are finally going to have a heatwave up here in the north. Luckily I have a week of from the office and able t enjoy it in the summer cottage.

The corn marigolds (Glepionis segetum) are at their best and I really like the yellow cloud they have formed.

Maybe next year I will plant them to a bigger area to allow them to give even better show.

Tete-a-tete

It has been a beautiful day up here in the north. The daffodils are starting to bloom and Tete-a-tetes are the first ones.

The others will follow soon and the buds are nearly ready to open. Though, there will be a change in the weather and we are expecting to have very cold days ahead with some snowfall.

Luckily daffodils are very hardy and cold weather just makes them bloom longer. I on the other hand am running around the garden trying to get as many things as possible done before the bad weather.

Teddy Bear

It has been awhile since I have written. Been traveling a bit and enjoying life.

Autumn is here though the days are still surprisingly warm and the water in the lake is still 20 degrees Celsius. Cannot remember a summer like this.

I was planning to have pictures about late blooming lilies, beautiful lobelias, tall sunflowers and colorful dahlias in my blog. Unfortunately we had a thunderstorm yesterday and it poured tons and tons of hails on us.

Now most of my flowerbeds look like salad bowls and do not have that many things to take photos of. Well luckily it is end of the season so I do not feel bad.

Two dwarf sunflowers made it through the storm so not everything was lost. The teddy bears are the ones that I always like to have in the garden because of their reliability and sweet appearance.

Yellow Queen

The Yellow Queen is blooming beautifully and it is my first yellow aquilegia. It has required many failed attempts and plenty of waiting to get here.

For aquilegias it has been a perfect start of a year. No heavy rains to ruin their flowers.

To be honest it has been extremely dry up here in the north. All the other plants look that they have been beaten by the sun and the lack of water.

According to the weather forecast it should rain today. Now I am just waiting and hoping.
