Design Impression

Darwin tulips are at their best. Design Impression is a variety I have not tried before but seems to be a very nice one.

The spring has been a good one for the tulips up here in the north – not to dry and not too warm.

After several sunny and beautiful days we are going to have few rainy ones. A bit pity because I still have plenty of things to do in the garden.

Dahlia

Have planted several dahlias again this year but it will take months before they start to bloom.

When on a Sunday walk happened to notice a cute little dahlia decided to have one in my balcony.

Just loved the color and the small size of the plant. The problem I always face with the dahlias I buy is that they tend to stop blooming at some point.

This time decided to try to fertilize the pot well and see if that would solve the issue. Time will tell.

Stonecrop

After several beautiful days the winter decided to come back. The temperature is below the freezing point and we got some snow during the night.

Stonecrops are doing fine though. Even with the low temperatures they have managed to start the season.

Stonecrops are one of those plants which look interesting the whole summer. Light green during the spring and red long lasting blooms during the autumn.

Tete-a-tete

It has been a beautiful day up here in the north. The daffodils are starting to bloom and Tete-a-tetes are the first ones.

The others will follow soon and the buds are nearly ready to open. Though, there will be a change in the weather and we are expecting to have very cold days ahead with some snowfall.

Luckily daffodils are very hardy and cold weather just makes them bloom longer. I on the other hand am running around the garden trying to get as many things as possible done before the bad weather.

Pansy

Pansies are doing well in the balcony. Bought them already few weeks ago.

During some of the nights the temperature still goes below the freezing point but the pansies are used to the cold by now and do not mind. Sometimes they even survive the harsh winters up here.

Need to buy some more to the summer cottage. Just to have blooming flowers to brighten the early summer.

Begonia

It has been sunny and blue skies for several days up here in the north. We even went over 20 Celsius degrees which is warm for this time of the year.

I cannot even remember when I have had a begonia in my balcony. Just love the shiny colors that have been bred so bright during the years.

When I saw this one simply needed to have it. Hope that I didn’t buy it too early. There still will be cold nights ahead and cannot even remember how cold tolerant begonias are.

Viola

We have had few sunny days up here in the north. It is a bit early but could not resist buying few violas to the balcony even though we still have some snow on the ground.

This year winter came with plenty of snow and it has taken a while to melt. Good thing is that thick blanket of snow also acts as a cover and low temperatures do not harm the plants.

Less than month to go and the gardening season is here. Six long months we have waited but the reward is now nearly here.

Stonecrop

Autumn is here and my stonecrop flowers are turning red and birches are starting to drop their leaves.

Temperature is slowly dropping and it rains more often. Days are getting shorter and we are reaching the point where the day is as long as the night.

Stonecrop is probably one of the easiest plant to grow. It can almost take any weather or temperature and still look good. Must buy more of them in the spring.

Teddy Bear

It has been awhile since I have written. Been traveling a bit and enjoying life.

Autumn is here though the days are still surprisingly warm and the water in the lake is still 20 degrees Celsius. Cannot remember a summer like this.

I was planning to have pictures about late blooming lilies, beautiful lobelias, tall sunflowers and colorful dahlias in my blog. Unfortunately we had a thunderstorm yesterday and it poured tons and tons of hails on us.

Now most of my flowerbeds look like salad bowls and do not have that many things to take photos of. Well luckily it is end of the season so I do not feel bad.

Two dwarf sunflowers made it through the storm so not everything was lost. The teddy bears are the ones that I always like to have in the garden because of their reliability and sweet appearance.
