Yet another daffodil variety to the garden! I was so sure that I already had this one but it turned out that the one I have is a double version of this variety.
Gold Medal (Narcissus ‘Gold Medal’) is a beautiful trumpet daffodil.
I think that I have enough new daffodils for this spring and try to avoid buying more.
It has been beautiful spring day up here in the north. Have spend it walking in the city center and enjoying a restaurant lunch now that the corona restrictions have been removed.
We still have plenty of snow left and need to wait more than a month before being able to do anything in the garden. This winter was white and cannot remember when we have had this much snow.
Noticed Tete-a-Tete Daffodils (Narcissus‘Tete-a-Tete’) in the nearby grocery store and bought the first daffodils of the year.
I will try to find some new varieties this year and do the same thing I do every year. Once the daffodils have bloomed I will take them to the summer cottage and plant them for the forthcoming springs.
Only one sunflower managed to bloom this year. I had several varieties growing but Autumn was simply too cool for them even though the summer itself was warm.
Luckily Sunspot (Helianthus annuus ‘Sunspot’) grew large and beautiful bloom to save the summer. I had it growing in a large pot with other flowers.
Sometimes this just happens up here in the north. For certain flowers our summer is simply too short sometimes. Better luck next year.
It has been a good summer for the lilies.
The early ones like Tiny Nugget (Lilium ‘Tiny Nugget’) bloomed early and the late ones are blooming as we speak.
Lilies are easy to care though have had some troubles with the red lily beetles (Lilioceris lilii) recently. Must take them seriously next spring since they are getting numerous.

Corn Marigold (Glepionis segetum) is strongly self seeding. I have not planted any for two years.
Still there are some blooming after all this time.
Because it is doing so well I might buy more seeds and start mixing it in the flowerbeds with other bloomers. I can always use some reliable plants in the garden.
I have had Yellow Queen (Aquilegia chrysantha ‘Yellow Queen’) in the garden for few years now but never blooming this well.
Finally found a spot this columbine likes. Moderate shade and well drained soil seems to be the best place for it.
The Yellow Queen is quite tall but surprisingly survived the thunderstorm we had yesterday which was a surprise for me.
Must collect the seeds next month and plant more in the spring.
Today we are close to having the warmest day in June ever. The previous record is from the year 1935. It sure is unusually warm up here in the north now.
The Chandelier (Lupinus ‘Chandelier’) seems to enjoy the warmth and blooms by the lake. Nowadays it is forbidden to grow many of the lupine varieties here in Finland. Several varieties have been classified as invasive.
Luckily Chandelier is not one of those varieties and I can continue enjoying it as well as the heatwave.
Tulips are still blooming up here in the north. This year the weather is warm and it will make the season a short one. Cannot complain, I just enjoy the sunshine.
Beauty of Apeldoorn (Tulipa ‘Beauty of Apeldoorn’) is doing well and displaying its beautiful colors.
Already made the tulip bulb order for the autumn and going to have two more varieties in the garden.
