Autumn Joy

Finally managed to spend a weekend in the summer cottage. We have already had the first frosts during the nights and it is time to prepare for the winter.

Not many flowers left but the Autumn Joy (Sedum spectabile ‘Autumn Joy’) is still blooming.

It is one of those plants that do not require any care and is at its best in the autumn.

Fall Phlox

Up here in the north days are getting shorter and cooler. Luckily the weather has been nice — not too much rain and some sunshine.

The Fall Phloxes (Phlox paniculata) are blooming. The white ones always start followed by the other colors.

Next year I will try to find more varieties to have more colors.

Brilliant

The Brilliant (Sedum spectabile ‘Brilliant’) is blooming beautifully.

It is a new variety I bought this year and I like the color. The others I have are variations of darker pink.

Most of the other flowers are now gone and it makes the sedums stand out. The first frost came few days ago but does not yet affect hardy plants like sedums which are going to continue blooming several weeks from now.

Ornamental Brassica

Autumn is here. The trees are loosing their leaves. A constant flow of bird flocks flying south accompanied by a steady wind from the north. During the nights temperatures are below the freezing point.

Some of the plants are still coping. The ornamental brassicas are at their best bringing color to the garden.

Not a good year for them though. The hails, the maggots and I chose a wrong variety in the spring. Must try to find a different one for the next summer.

A long wait for the spring is about to begin.
