Cavoli started to bloom and seems to have long lasting blooms which always makes me happy. I usually do not have lilies with short stems but this year I made an exception. Bought three varieties to the front of one of the flowerbeds. Let’s see how these cope with the winter and low temperatures.

White form of yarrow is native to this region. To have some variation I started to buy other colors as well. My trial is now bearing fruits and other colors are starting to appear. The first dahlia started to bloom. We are early this summer. Usually dahlias start around mid August. Not quite sure what will I have blooming later in the autumn. Seems that the long period of high temperatures has made everything to be unbelievably early. Well at least I have plenty of watering to do.

Pink Sunrays are blooming. An annual native to Australia. Not sure if I am convinced though. The stems are not that strong and the flowers are smaller than expected. This was a nice experiment but do not think that I will grow them again.

I have been trying to find new cosmos varieties to grow. I prefer short and early ones. Purity seems to be a good candidate. Not too tall, grows to beautiful shape and flowers are well formed. Need to collect the seeds in the autumn and see if it is success also next year.

This spring I planted different marigold varieties. I was so sure that I can tell them apart but to be honest not sure which one is this. Well, it is blooming beautifully. So I should be happy and just enjoy.

The first gladiolus opened its blooms in my boiling balcony. We have had extremely warm temperatures up here in the north and it seems that we can continue to enjoy the hot weather. I just escaped to the summer cottage to have a lake by to cool off.

I planted one of the Mount Cook bulbs to my balcony and it sure has large blooms. What surprised me is that it also has strong scent. Strongest I have ever faced. I can smell it when sitting in my living room. Such an outstanding Lily. Happy to have it.
