One of my mom’s favorite flowers is cosmos. Originally she got the seeds from an old and a dear friend of hers. After that we have had them blooming every year. They have never failed her no matter what kind of summer we have had.
The colors of cosmos are many and also I have grown fond of them. We have decided that next spring we will try a new variety called Sonata Pink Blush. It should bloom early and be a bit shorter and steadier compared to the one we currently grow.
PS. You can collect the cosmos seeds in the autumn. I do not think that my mother has ever bought the seeds. She has just harvested them each year.
I too love cosmos… my seeds came from a family that came to live next door to us 14 years ago from Korea. We are a uni town…their little girl bought the seeds with her to remind her of her grandparents and home. We all sowed the seeds and grew them on and ever since they have bloomed each year from seed saved. We have made life long friends keeping in contact and now both their children are at uni in Korea…how time flies…

Cosmos are among my favorite flowers. For me, they reliably seed themselves every year. The only year I had to plant new seed was after an odd snow-less winter. The “Sensation” series has proven most reliable for me, though I did have a couple ‘Sonatas’ come back this year. I harvest some seeds in the fall, just in case.
I like how you seem to be concentrating on a specific plant in each post. I also am curious about your location. Gardening in the north of where?
Best wishes as you continue gardening and blogging!

Hello again, Kari. I like all of what I’ve seen on your blog, and have nominated you for a Liebster Award to recognize and help promote new blogs. You can find the details for this in my latest post, https://cosmosandcleome.wordpress.com/2015/01/09/awards-season-not-just-for-film-and-tv-anymore/
I hope you have fun with it!

I love cosmos also but for some reason haven’t grown it in a while. Another thing for my list! A variety that grows a bit shorter is a good idea.

You’re so awesome! I do not suppose I’ve truly read through anything like this before.
So nice to find someone with original thoughts on this subject matter.
Really.. thanks for starting this up. This website is something
